Site 2 St Bonnet
Site 2 : Les « Tounes »
During the summer of 1959, times when St Bonnet had still many cowsheds on the ground floor of the houses, Vivian captured the movement of two cows followed by their young herdsman. On the left are the “Tounes”, these are massive stone arches intended for sheltering horses on days of bad weather.
The artist captured the silhouette of the young herdsman in his stride, standing out against the grey background. The two cows are very distinct. The frame is completely filled and closed at the back by a house that gives verticality to the image. The square 6x6 format indicates the use of her Rolleiflex camera at a distance of less than 7 or 8 metres from her subject.
